Taylor Fritz is one of the biggest names taking part in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles and he's hoping for a big crowd.
The Ultimate Tennis Showdown is an exhibition event that's become quite popular among players and fans. It's one that features a lot of changes in the rules in an attempt to make the matches a bit more exciting. This edition in Los Angeles will even feature an on-court DJ which is something we haven't seen before.
The event was conceived a few years ago by Patrick Mouratoglou with the first few editions taking place at his Academy in the South of France. Since then the event has been moving around with Los Angeles being the destination this year.
We'll have a few great players taking part such as Frances Tiafoe, Alexander Bublik, Gael Monfils and Taylor Fritz obviously. Nick Kyrgios will be there as well though he won't be playing due to a wrist injury. He'll be the coach of Frances Tiafoe though so that should be fire. Fritz certainly hopes for big crowds.
Yeah I mean, I hope so. We’ll see. I hope I have a lot of people coming out and cheering for me, like in Paris.
He should see a lot fewer booes than in Paris which he'll be grateful for. When it comes to the event itself, Fritz is looking forward to it. He's not bothered by some of the rule changes especially the one regarding serves.
I think it’s not bad for me because it’s obviously easier to return when you’re only serving one serve, and then I feel pretty comfortable just playing behind one serve. I don’t know, it worked out for me last time.
Check out the schedule of play of the exhibition which begins today.
