Nick Kyrgios won't be playing at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles, but he will be there nonetheless.
It's been a rather disappointing year for Nick Kyrgios, as he's been out with a knee injury for much of this year. The Australian sustained a knee injury leading up to the Australian Open, and the rehabilitation turned out to be longer than many anticipated, according Kyrgios himself.
He eventually made his return to the ATP Tour on the grass but it was a short-lived one. He played one match at the Stuttgart Open and then withdrew from the rest of the events, including Wimbledon due to a wrist injury.
He recently provided an update on the injury though his return seems unlikely to happen anytime soon as he withdrew from the 2023 Ultimate Tennis Showdown in Los Angeles that was coming up.
The exhibition event will take place from July 21st to July 23rd featuring players like Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Ben Shelton, Alexander Bublik, and others though there won't be any Nick Kyrgios. The Australian was set to appear at the event but he withdrew a few days ago. He will be present in the City of Angels and actually act as the coach of Frances Tiafoe at the event.
That should be an interesting one as the Australian is famously against having a coach himself as he likes to operate alone, so it will be interesting to see how he does in a role that he doesn't value that much for himself.
Frances Tiafoe has been coached by former player Wayne Ferreira for a very long time as well, so it will be interesting to see how he does under Kyrgios. Will we see underhand serves? Will the rallies be short? How many aces will the American have? Stick with us and find out in the coming days.
