Novak Djokovic played many times against Andy Murray but the first time they played went to Murray quite convincingly.
Djokovic remembers their first match well and there is a good reason for that. Murray smashed him in that match. He remembered the match when he was asked in Dubai about possibly facing Murray on the court again. They didn't play once since Murray made his comeback with fans eager to see the duo competing against each other once again.
"It's not guaranteed that we're going to meet, but... Off the court we meet, but on the court we both need to win two matches. I mean, huge respect to him."
They are of a similar age and practically grew up together on the tour which is what Djokovic also referenced. He explained that they go way back, back when Murray used to smash him on the court.
Andy and I go back a long time, I think since we were 11 or 12 years old. That's the first time we met, first time we played against each other. He kicked my a** - sorry for my language - at that time. Ever since then we kind of followed each other on the journey to become professional players.
