After Daniil Medvedev destroyed Marcos Giron in the first round in Melbourne, he added another dominant performance in the second round.
This time, the Russian took on home player, John Millman. The Australian, who was granted a wild card, previously defeated Marc-Andrea Huesler in a thrilling five-setter, in which the home crowd helped him to pull through. He knew that the same support would also be needed against the former world no. 1, who has a history of disagreements with fans, but the match wasn't anywhere close to being as dramatic as his first-round showing.
The first set was the closest of all three played. Medvedev broke his opponent three times to lead in the match, but he was broken back every time, even when he had a set point in the tenth game. However, he added one more break in the eleventh, and this time didn't lose, to win the first set 7-5.
From there, it was a smooth sailing for the Russian. He hit 22 winners and only 12 unforced errors in the remaining two sets and kept also high percentages on his serve.
Moreover, he didn't face a single break point in the second and third set and after two hours and 21 minutes, comfortably advanced to the third round after beating Millman 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
