On Tuesday, Dominic Thiem won the first match of the 2022 season when he defeated compatriot Filip Misolic at the Salzburg Challenger, a few days later, his comeback run was stopped by Facundo Bagnis.

The 2020 US Open champion is still looking to reach his top form and come back to the top of the ATP Rankings. It seemed that it might happen at the Challenger in Salzburg as the Austrian defeated Filip Misolic in two sets in the second round. However, in the second round, Dominic Thiem took on the seventh-seeded Facundo Bagnis.

Former world number 3 got the first break of the match, but he was subsequently broken twice in the first set and lost it 3-6. In the second set, Thiem faced seven breakpoints in the first three games, but he handled that well. But his second-set momentum was stopped by rain and players returned to the court on Friday.

It appeared that the Austrian rested well after the rain break and won 5 out of the first 6 games when coming back on the court, winning the second set 6-2.

Unfortunately for Thiem, that wasn't enough to win the match. He couldn't create any breakpoint opportunities in the third set. On the other hand, he was broken in the third game and lost the match 3-6, 6-2, 4-6.
