After defeating youngster Emil Ruusuvuori, former world number 3 faced much more difficult task as he took on experienced Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut. And it wasn't a good start of the match for Thiem who quickly found himself 2-5 down in the first set.

Yet, he kept fighting and earned the break back to force the tie-break in the first set. He kept his cool and prevailed in the tie-break to win it 7-5. On the other hand, in the second set, Bautista was much better player as he managed to break his opponent twice and level the score of the match.

But Thiem was very strong on his serve in the third set when he didn't allow Bautista to have a single break point and he marched towards a victory to reach his first quarterfinals of the 2022 season.
