Ahead of the 2022 Roland Garros, there were not expectations in regards to Daniil Medvedev's result as the Russian was coming back from an injury.

In Geneva, Daniil Medvedev played his first clay-court match of the season and lost in two sets to Richard Gasquet and also that was the reason why it wasn't expected that he will do well at the 2022 Roland Garros. However, he was very dominant in his first round against Facundo Bagnis and will hope to continue in a similar style.

Historically, the second Grand Slam of the season is Medvedev's worst Grand Slam tournament by far as until 2021, he didn't get past first round in Paris. Last year, he reached quarterfinals at the Roland Garros and he will try to do the same this year after losing only six games in his opening match.

In the first and third sets of the match, the Russian didn't have an ideal start to the set, but then won all the remaining games in the set what resulted in a dominant 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win in exactly 100 minutes. Medvedev hit 35 winners and only 19 unforced errors as he managed to win 9 games in a row at one point. In the second round, he will take on the winner of the match between Laslo Djere and Ricardas Berankis.
