Alexander Zverev is getting back to his best after suffering an injury at last year's Roland Garros and he's happy with the progress.

At the first major of the season, the 25-year-old German lost already in the second round. Now, he played his first match since competing in Melbourne, and after helping his country, he was happy with the result.

“I think it’s important to go into tomorrow’s ties with a 1-1 [scoreline]. Obviously I’m very happy with my game. I think that was the best match since my injury. It’s going in a positive way and I hope I can continue progressing.”

He also spoke more in detail about his victory and how he overcame the experienced Swiss, who struggled to find his A game.

“I think I played a lot more aggressive and maybe Stan’s spirit went down a little bit, but in the end I picked up my level and I’m very happy with that.”

Day 2 of the tie between Switzerland and Germany will start with a doubles match between an experienced doubles team Andreas Mies and Tim Puetz, while Switzerland will rely on youngsters Leandro Riedi and Dominic Stricker. Speaking about the upcoming doubles clash, Zverev said:

“We have a very good doubles team. It’s going to be important for us to keep the spirits up and to get the lead.”
