Carlos Alcaraz is staying perfect at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, easily outplaying Fabian Marozsan.
After losing the opening set to Matteo Arnaldi in the second-round win, the 20-year-old won 24 of the following 30 games before his match against Marozsan, and he kept the high level also in this round-of-16 match at the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year.
Marozsan is a familiar name to Alcaraz, as he sensationally stunned him in Rome last year, and ahead of this meeting, the young Spaniard admitted that he's been looking to get his revenge ever since.
He got exactly that on the courts where he managed to win a trophy last year, as he flew into the match, having a break point in the opening game. Alcaraz couldn't convert that, but he used his chances a few games later to go into a 4-3 lead.
With one more break for the world no. 2, the Hungarian had no chance to respond, as the 2023 Wimbledon champion won the first set of the match 6-3, looking to keep his streak of sets won going.
In the second set, Alcaraz managed to break his opponent's third service game, but Marozsan was threatening to come back with two break points in the following game.
But the defending champion stayed calm, saving both and ensuring that he would get a chance to serve out the match with newer balls after they changed the following game.
He did exactly that, securing another convincing victory, this time 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals of the 2024 Indian Wells Open, awaiting the winner of the match between the tenth-seeded Alex de Minaur, and the sixth-seeded Alexander Zverev, who stunned him at the Australian Open earlier this year. The Spaniard will certainly like to get back-to-back revenge wins.
