Carlos Alcaraz vs Fabian Marozsan: 2024 Indian Wells Open - Preview & Prediction

by Zachary Wimer

Carlos Alcaraz cruised through his second match at the 2024 Indian Wells Open, and now he'll face a difficult challenge in Fabian Marozsan.

This is a pretty interesting matchup because the last time Alcaraz took on Marozsan, the Hungarian was ranked outside of the Top 100 on the ATP Tour, and the Hungarian player actually won the match.

It was in Rome last year, just a couple of days after the Spaniard had won the Madrid Open. Marozsan played a superb match to stun Alcaraz in two sets, and now we finally get to see them playing again.

It comes after the Hungarian put together a couple of really impressive matches in Indian Wells. The conditions suit him, and it's just one of those weeks when he's really feeling his game.

It's been no less impressive for Alcaraz who did have a shaky first match but looked miles better in the second one. As the defending champion, we don't really have to worry whether he likes to play here or not, and he's certainly looking forward to the rematch.

"After that loss, I felt really, really bad. After that match I really wanted to rematch that match against him. I mean, he's playing great tennis. He is beating big guys this probably past months. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to playing against him again."

Head-to-head:

They only played once so far, and that was the mentioned match from last year in Rome. Marozsan was able to win it 6-3, 7-6(4), but that was an anomaly. It's not something that will happen here because Alcaraz has no problem in the matchup.

The Hungarian does play an attacking and aggressive style, and he cleaned many lines in that Rome match, but I don't see that happening here. Alcaraz is too quick, and the bounce is too high.

Prediction:

I think the Spaniard gets his revenge in this spot, and I think he does it comfortably. He's looking better with every match, and this is his event.

Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz to win in two sets.
