The draw for the 2024 Kitzbuhel Open has been released and it promises multiple exciting matchups.
The ATP 250 tournament in Kitzbuhel offers last chance to prepare for the Olympic Games for players who prefer competing against others instead of practicing. The event runs from July 22nd to 27th, and the draw is full of clay-court specialists.
Last year, home hero Dominic Thiem played in the final of the tournament, also known as the Generali Open, for sponsorship reasons, but the Austrian player lost the final to Sebastian Baez.
Both will be back also this year, and the draw was really cruel to both of them, but especially Thiem, as they were drawn next to each other as a possible second-round matchup.
The Argentinian is the top seed in Kitzbuhel, which means that he has a first-round BYE, starting in the second round of the tournament. The 2020 US Open champion, on the other hand, will play against Thiago Agustin Tirante in the first round, as the Argentinian player received a special exempt spot, having reached the semi-final at the 2024 Bastad Open.
But the draw wasn't brutal only in the top part. On the opposite side of it, the second-seeded Alejandro Tabilo will play against either Pavel Kotov or former Wimbledon finalist, Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the tournament.
There are plenty of Argentinian players in the draw, part from Baez and Tirante, who met in the top part. For example, the third-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry will also fight for the title, starting in the second round against the winner of the match between Yannick Hanfmann and Jaume Munar.
There will also be an all-Argentinian first-round match between Facundo Diaz Acosta and Federico Coria, and the winner will play either against a qualifier or the sixth-seeded Nuno Borges, who will be Tirante's semi-final opponent in Bastad.
In the top quarter of the draw, as the possible quarter-final opponent for Baez or Thiem, the seventh-seeded Roberto Carballes Baena and Marton Fucsovics will meet in one of the exciting first-round matches.
The winner of this match will play against the winner of the match between Daniel Altmaier and Hugo Gaston, who was recently part of a controversy in Hamburg. The full draw for the 2024 Kitzbuhel Open can be viewed below.
