Marta Kostyuk has been a very vocal player in many regards and the Ukrainian hasn't been afraid to speak openly about things many would consider controversial.
Tennis does not like controversy and if you think otherwise you just need to look at how they handle their business. They are a sport that would rather not speak about issues or get involved. It's a business after all and there is only one goal in business. Marta Kostyuk is different, she's a prototype of a new outspoken type of player similar to Nick Kyrgios.
The Ukrainian was not afraid to repeatedly blast Russian players over their way of handling their country's invasion of Ukraine calling for even harsher punishment for them. Now she took aim toward the tennis governing bodies in general. Posting a screenshot on social media Kostyuk compared the prize money from Halle and Berlin this week.
Both events are 500 series events but there is a significant difference between the amount of prize money given. Kostyuk questioned the distribution by writing 'Are we really that bad'.It's an issue that's been talked about before with only the grand slams offering equal prize money. It's also one that can be explained rather well. There is simply less interest in WTA tennis with the attendance number and ticket sales proving it.
Unfortunately in today's economic system, the more money you generate the more you get paid. That's why tennis players earn more than doctors. ATP tennis generates more interest and more money and hence why the bigger prize pool.
