Coco Gauff is a very quick player and she demonstrated her speed and tennis skill by winning a point against Sofia Kenin at Wimbledon despite falling down during the rally.
Gauff battled Sofia Kenin with everything she had but everything she had ultimately wasn't enough as the older American secured her biggest win this year. It was a really solid match from both players and Gauff played really well.
She blasted 30 winners in the match but it wasn't enough as she also had 30+ unforced errors and that was simply too much, especially with Kenin keeping her number under 20. It's an unfortunate ending for Gauff who had high hopes in London after finding some form last week in Eastbourne.
The draw didn't really give her an easy one as Kenin is a Grand Slam champion. She's not playing on that level anymore and has had a shaky year but she's still capable of playing some amazing tennis. She showed it against Gauff and having played three qualifying matches before the main draw certainly didn't hurt her in this one.
For Gauff, it's back to the drawing board as she needs to improve a couple of things before the WTA Tour shifts back to hard courts. She'll have a chance to go back home, rest up a bit and potentially work on her forehand among other things.
The problem against Kenin wasn't her speed or the serve but the baseline play. She had absolutely great moments where she played a couple of consecutive shots that were precise and good but she needs to find that consistency throughout the match.
There wasn't much consistency in this match but she's capable of it. She showed it in a spectacular rally against Kenin which she ultimately won with a superb forehand. Check it out below.
