Korda Positive About Physical Transformation But Admits 'My Butt Got a Little Bigger'

Sebastian Korda is feeling confident heading into Wimbledon 2023 and the American has heaped praise on his team for supporting his physical growth.

2023 started positively for Korda as he reached the quarter-final of the Australian Open before the 22-year-old had to withdraw in the last-eight clash against Karen Khachanov due to injury. Ultimately, the wrist injury ruled the American player out for three months and he eventually returned to the ATP Tour at the Madrid Open in April.

But, Korda used the time off effectively and did more physical work off the court alongside newly appointed trainer Jez Green, who previously worked with Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu. When speaking to inews, Korda shared that he had improved his athleticism, despite gaining seven kilograms and admitting "my butt got a little bigger as well".

“I definitely feel a lot faster out on the court, I think I move a lot better. So I don’t think I lost anything."

Korda said to inews

"I’m stable a lot more. I was very tall and kind of skinny and I could be all over the place sometimes. So [it was] just kind of making myself stronger again and really making sure everything’s stable and ready to go.

The combination of physical improvements and a decent run to the Cinch Championships semi-finals in June led Korda to proclaim himself as one of the Wimbledon favourites recently. It is a claim that the American stands by and he still considers himself among the best on grass, which he wants to show at Wimbledon this year.

"I definitely do consider myself one of the top grass-court players.”

“I have a game for it. So it’s just kind of getting the experiences. There’s a lot of great players, obviously draws are gonna be very tough, but I think it’s gonna be a great tournament.”
