Carlos Alcaraz will start his Wimbledon campaign on the outer courts despite being the top seed at the event.
Alcaraz is the top-ranked player at Wimbledon in the ATP draw, however, he won't start his 2023 campaign on the Centre Court. The Spaniard made his return to grass at the Cinch Championships recently putting together a rather impressive run that allowed him to lift his maiden trophy on the surface.
The 20-year-old is now part of the group of players to have won trophies on all three major surfaces. It was a huge deal for the Spaniard whose perspective shifted after the win. At first, he didn't really believe much in his grass tennis but after putting together those great performances, he started to believe that he could have a good run.
His first match at Wimbledon will come on the second day of the event, Tuesday, July 4th. He is facing Jeremy Chardy in the first match and they will play on No. 1 Court. Despite being the top seed and world number one Carlos Alcaraz won't begin his Wimbledon campaign on the Centre Court.
Defending champion Elena Rybakina will contest the first match on the main court against Shelby Rogers. The second match on the main court will be a British contest between Andy Murray and Ryan Peniston. The final one will see the return of Aryna Sabalenka to Wimbledon.
The Centre Court programme on Tuesday will feature a special ceremony before the start of the first match. The event will host a special ceremony for Roger Federer to honour his achievements at the event.
That will happen some 15 minutes before the Rybakina - Rogers match. Alcaraz will be busy playing his match as it's set to begin about 15 minutes before the ceremony on No. 1 Court so he won't be able to see it.
