From July 3rd to 16th, the best of the best will meet at the 2023 Wimbledon as the WTA draw for the event was released.
Last year, Wimbledon witnessed a great surprise when Elena Rybakina lifted the trophy in the All England Club. She will be back in 2023 to defend her title, but the journey will be difficult with many great players standing in her way.
The Kazakhstani is the third seed at Wimbledon this year, and she will start her journey against Shelby Rogers, but her preparation for the tournament has been less than ideal. But there may not be so much pressure put on her, as all eyes will be on the top seed, Iga Swiatek.
The Pole kept the expectations low ahead of the 2023 grass-court season, but she's playing better with every match played, and she will be a real threat at Wimbledon. In the first round of the tournament, Swiatek will play against Lin Zhu.
Aryna Sabalenka is another name that needs to be added to the mix. She's also one of the top favourites, and has a great motivation to win her second major trophy. In the first round of the 2023 Wimbledon, the second-seeded Belarusian will play against Panna Udvardy.
American tennis has two players that are seeded high. The third-seeded Jessica Pegula is one of them, and she will start her journey against Lauren Davis, in an all-American first-round clash at Wimbledon.
But another American seed, Coco Gauff, recently managed to beat her doubles partner on grass, and the 19-year-old will be seeded seventh and will play a very interesting match against former Grand Slam champion and fellow compatriot Sofia Kenin, who managed to win three matches in the qualifying draw.
One of the high-profile first-round matches will see Venus Williams take on Elina Svitolina after both players received a wild card for the tournament. Another name that fans will be looking to see in the draw is 16-year-old Mirra Andreeva, who will play against Xiyu Wang in the first round.
