Daria Saville has slammed some of her fellow WTA players for not saying anything despite seeing her on crutches.
Daria Saville played Naomi Osaka in the opening round of the Japan Open in Tokyo. Competing against one of the most high-profile players in the world at her home tournament was undoubtedly exciting.
Unfortunately, the match ended in terrible and distressing scenes. In the second game, Saville suddenly fell, screaming in pain. It became evident immediately that something was seriously wrong.
Osaka can hold her head high. The four-time Grand Slam champion immediately responded by rushing over to Saville with a towel and seeing if she could assist the distressed Australian in any way.
In addition, Osaka posted a heartwarming message on social media afterward. She wished Saville well and recounted a story of the 28-year-old saying kind things to her at this year's French Open.
Unfortunately, not all of Saville's colleagues were as concerned. She hit out at players who walked past and said nothing despite seeing the Australian on crutches from tearing her ACL.
"Thanks to everyone who has messaged me, it means the world. On the other hand, I'm sh*tlisting some of my colleagues who literally saw me today on crutches in Tokyo and didn't say a word. It cannot be hard to be a nice person."
"Just makes sad and makes me not wanna go through it all again to make a comeback on the tour and spend most of the time and seeing these people. And colleges that did take a second from their busy lives waiting for their practice or match to say something. You're in good list. I love u."
The players who did not stop to see how Saville was might be relieved she did not disclose their names. As Saville said, it does not hurt to be a nice person.
