Frances Tiafoe is a record holder at the Laver Cup, and he will continue to be a record holder also after the eighth edition of this popular exhibition.
Laver Cup is an exhibition tournament, despite having its official place in the ATP calendar. Still, players don't receive any ranking points for competing at the event, but there is a lot of prestige that they fight for.
Everyone wants to win a Laver Cup, and its unique team aspect often motivates players to compete, even if the tournament's place in the calendar could be tricky, since it's usually held only a couple of weeks after the US Open.
This year, the Laver Cup will be held in San Francisco in the United States, so transitioning to this event from the US Open will be very easy. It was easier only in 2018 when the tournament was held in Chicago and in 2021 when Boston hosted the Laver Cup.
Tiafoe competed in 2018, seeing his team lose 8-13, but he wasn't part of the most one-sided loss in the history of the Laver Cup in 2021, when Team World lost to Team Europe 1-14.
Apart from that, the American player missed only one other edition of this tournament. He has played at the Laver Cup a total of five times, and in 2025, he will record his sixth appearance.
Five appearances so far is a record number. In fact, it's a joint-most with Alexander Zverev, who will also mark his sixth appearance this year.
Zverev also owns some other records. He managed to win the most Laver Cups (5), recorded the most singles match wins (7), and helped his team with the most singles points (17). He has also won the most total points out of any player at the event (21).
Tiafoe has contributed three singles and three doubles wins over his five appearances, contributing a total of 12 points, which is the fifth-best result at the event.
In 2025, he will try to move up in the history tables, as Jack Sock, Roger Federer, and John Isner, who are the three players between him and Zverev, are not active anymore.

Tiafoe reacts to being picked for the 2025 Laver Cup

Tiafoe is a player who thrives in a team environment. He enjoys the Laver Cup, and as he said in a statement, he can't wait to compete at this team tournament once again, this time under a new team captain.
"There’s nothing like Laver Cup. I love playing for Team World and competing alongside guys who are usually my rivals. We’ve built something special, and I can’t wait to bring that same energy to San Francisco. Playing at home in front of U.S. fans means a lot – and I want to do everything I can to help us win."

New team captain Andre Agassi speaks about picking Tiafoe

Team World will have a new captain in 2025. After seven editions, John McEnroe was replaced by another American legend, Andre Agassi.
Agassi has recently appeared on the court with Holger Rune, who will make his debut for Team Europe this year, but at the Laver Cup, Agassi's focus will be only on Team World. He knows what Tiafoe can bring to his team, calling him a "perfect fit" for the Laver Cup.
"Frances is a perfect fit for the Laver Cup. He’s a big-match player, who thrives in the team environment, and is a threat in both singles and doubles. Beyond that, he brings incredible energy while on court and to our bench when supporting the team. His presence lifts everyone around him. I’m thrilled to have him on our team."
