Tommy Paul recently became engaged to his long-term partner and provided details about how he popped the question at the 2025
Cincinnati Open.
Despite being a consistent performer near the top of tennis, Paul sometimes slips under the radar compared to other American players because of his understated personality and playing style built on consistency and solidity.
Paul's record overwhelmingly proves that he deserves respect. He is an Australian Open semifinalist, French Open and Wimbledon quarterfinalist, and five-time
ATP titlist with a career-high ranking of No. 8, achieved earlier this season.
The American's quiet personality contrasts somewhat with that of his partner, Paige Lorenze, an influencer who regularly posts fashion and lifestyle content on her social media pages and has built a significant following.
Paul and Lorenze have been a couple since 2022, and are very happy together. They recently became engaged, and the 28-year-old has provided fans with details of how he asked her to marry him.
Paul discusses how he proposed to his partner
In an interview on the Tennis Channel after he defeated Pedro Martinez in the opening of the Cincinnati Open, he humorously revealed that bad weather had complicated his plans to propose.
"We did it in Nantucket, her family does vacation in Nantucket every year. I was going to do it at the beach, but I checked the weather three days before I went there, and it was raining every day. I thought, 'this is not going to be good."
The weather meant Paul had to improvise. He decided to rent a cottage, and Lorenze's friends were involved in an attempt to make the proposal as memorable and perfect as possible.
"I ended up renting a cottage in Nantucket for a night, and had her friends tell her that were going to a pre-game, they were all involved. Then we got there and it was all set up, hit her with the spiel, and bent the knee. It was a pretty special moment."
Thankfully for Paul, Lorenze said yes to make it a memorable moment for the right reasons. She is consistently seen at his matches throughout the season, and will hope to inspire him more as his fiancée and eventual wife.
Paul lost in the round of 32 in Cincinnati to Adrian Mannarino. Because of injury, he was making his first tournament appearance since the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. He will likely play better at the 2025 US Open.
Paul's proposal is not the only notable romantic development in the last 12 months
Two players who date each other attract more attention than Paul and others do. Paula Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas had two spells together,
but the pair were widely reported to have split last month.
Alexander Shevchenko and Anastasia Potapova were briefly married. Sadly, they divorced after 12 months last year, with
Potapova opening up about the struggles they faced that led to the divorce.
Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur announced their engagement in December 2024. Although it is impossible to predict the future, they seem to have an extremely healthy relationship that is built for a long and happy marriage.
