Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev committed to competing at the Laver Cup again in 2025. They are two of the most successful players in the competition's history.
Team World will have a home-ground advantage once again at the Laver Cup. After Team Europe won the 2024 Laver Cup in Berlin, the competition will move to a venue outside of Europe again. In 2025, the Chase Center in San Francisco will host the tournament.
The 2025 Laver Cup will be held from September 19th until 21st, and the line-up for the tournament is starting to shape up. Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz were the first two announced players. Now, they were joined by two more players.
Alexander Zverev is the most successful player in the history of the tournament. He played at the Laver Cup five times, and every time he played, Team Europe won the competition.
Together with Frances Tiafoe he has the most appearances, but he also holds the records for most overall wins, most singles matches won, most singles points won, and also most total points won. Zverev contributed with a total of 21 points to Team Europe, and no player has ever managed to score more at the Laver Cup.
Now, he will try to help Team Europe repeat their success from 2024. For the first time, the team won't be captained by Bjorn Borg. Instead, Yannick Noah took his place, and he chose Zverev to represent the European team.
"Sascha is one of the most consistent and fearless competitors on tour and his experience, leadership and ability to rise to the occasion will be invaluable to us. We know how tough Team World will be, especially with the home crowd, but with Sascha and Carlos on our side, we’ll be ready for the challenge."
Of course, Zverev was also happy about joining the team. Every time he played, his team was able to win the tournament, so his goal is very clear ahead of the eighth edition of the tournament.
"I love being part of the Laver Cup, being teammates with some of the greatest players in the world is very special. I’m also really looking forward to San Francisco this year. It is super exciting to be playing at the home of the Golden State Warriors, it will be so cool to play in their arena and experience the atmosphere."
Team World also knows its second member. Their previous team captain, John McEnroe, was also replaced. Andre Agassi now captain the team, and he chose Ben Shelton as his second player.
Despite competing at the Laver Cup only twice before, Shelton is also one of the most successful players to ever play this popular tournament. In fact, he's the player with the highest win percentage (75%).
Despite playing only in two editions, he contributed with 12 points. That is a joint fifth-best mark together with Frances Tiafoe who played five Laver Cups. All players ahead of Shelton in this statistic competed at the event at least four times.
In 2025, Shelton will have a chance to further improve his numbers, but most importantly, help the Team World to another triumph.
"Nothing compares to Laver Cup. It’s electric. The team format, the excitement, the fans – it’s next level. I’m really excited to be playing my third Laver Cup and first in front of an American crowd, I think it’ll be a pretty cool atmosphere in San Francisco and we are pumped and super motivated to win back the Laver Cup!"
