It seems that Serena Williams is serious about winning the 24th Grand Slam title as she signed up for WTA 1000 events in Toronto and Cincinnati.

The last time she did that was in 2015 when she was chasing a Calendar Slam. Back then, Serena Williams reached semifinals in Toronto and triumphed in Cincinnati. A result that would really kick-start her come back and attempt to win the 24th Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open.

Serena used a protected ranking to enter both events as she doesn't have eligible ranking to participate. That is because she played only 1 match this season, at the 2022 Wimbledon. Since 2015, Williams competed in Canada and Cincinnati only three times.

She played the final in Toronto in 2019 and lost in the second round in Cincinnati in 2018 and in the third round in 2020. The combination of these two tournaments was really not common for the 23-time Grand Slam champion lately and so her commitment to both events hints that she will try everything possible and impossible to win the 2022 US Open and prepare for it really well.
