Serena Williams ends up with harder draw in Cincinnati than in Toronto

Serena Williams had a pretty tough draw in Toronto but her return to the US in Cincinnati won't be any easier in terms of the draw.

The draw of Serena Williams in Toronto was quite tough as the American got Belinda Bencic in round two. The Swiss player won that match as Williams was unable to move well enough to cover the court the way she needed to. Fans were hoping she'll avoid a tough draw in Cincinnati in order to get a few more matches in but that did not happen.

If anything, Williams got an ever harder draw than in Canada. Round one brings her Emma Raducanu, a good player who is not playing that well at the moment but once that can certainly beat her. If she somehow wins that she might face Victoria Azarenka in round two which is another huge matchup.

Should she win that somehow she'll face either Jessica Pegula or Bianca Andreescu? Either matchup would be extremely difficult for Serena to navigate, particularly Pegula who is playing really well at the moment. The quarterfinals might bring her Maria Sakkari or Karolina Pliskova.

Semi-finals will be either Sabalenka, Fernandez or Osaka with Swiatek, Jabeur or Halep waiting in the final. It's highly unlikely Williams makes a deep run here but if she does, that's her path. An extremely difficult one.
