Naomi Osaka featured prominently at the World Sports Photography Awards with her photo from last year's Australian Open chosen as the photograph of the year.

It happened last year in Melbourne during her clash with Ons Jabeur and the photo in question beat 7000 other entrants for the honour. It shows Osaka tending to a butterfly that flew onto the court and was captured by Reuters photographer David Gray.

The photograph was chosen for representing both the beauty and the power of sport and it's unique in the sense that the focal point of the photograph is Osaka's shadow. At this year's Australian Open Osaka worse the 'butterfly shoes' from Nike that were specifically designed due to this incident.

Osaka is currently preparing to return to tennis during the North American hard court stretch where she had success in the past. She hopes to reignite her career after a stretch of poor results and injury woes.
