Ons Jabeur and Marketa Vondrousova contested a really big match earlier this year, and now we'll see another one at the 2023 WTA Finals in Cancun.

The match in question was the Wimbledon final, which is still the most heartbreaking loss of Jabeur's career. She talked about it a few times after that match, admitting that she simply should have won it, and she was right.

She lost to a player who admitted her expectations as being a quick round-one loss, but either way, Vondrousova is a very good player. She's not just someone who stumbled into winning Wimbledon. She played well and won it deservedly.

Head-to-head:

The Wimbledon match was the most recent one they played, but it's not the only one. They actually played seven matches so far, including three this year, and funnily enough, Vondrousova won all of them. She bested Jabeur at the Australian Open to start the year.

She bested her at the Indian Wells Masters and at Wimbledon as well. None of these matches were blowout wins, but they all looked very comfortable, which might indicate a matchup problem.

I do think there is one simply because Vondrousova is quite solid and doesn't make too many mistakes, which is the opposite of Jabeur.

Prediction:

Jabeur is amazing, but she's amazing only about 60 % of the time, which complicates a lot of her matches. Any time she faces a player who is very consistent, she tends to struggle because those holes in her game undo any good she does when she's playing amazing.

With the last three matches going the way of Vondrousova, I somehow have to wonder whether she'll win again. She hasn't played well recently, as opposed to Jabeur, but I somehow favour her to win here. The questionable physical state of Jabeur is why.

Prediction: Marketa Vondrousova to win in two sets.
