Coco Gauff got close to winning the 2022 Roland Garros when she was only one match away from lifting her maiden Grand Slam trophy, but she was stopped by Iga Swiatek in the final.

It seems that Coco Gauff has been competing for a decade already, but she’s still only 18-years-old. The teen sensation is playing on the WTA Tour since she was 14 and gained a lot of experience since then.

However, she didn’t break through thanks to some surprising run at a Grand Slam tournament. Her growth has been gradual and for now, it peaked at the 2022 Roland Garros where she played her first singles Grand Slam final and her second doubles Grand Slam final.

Currently, Gauff is only a few points away from reaching the Top 10 of the WTA Rankings for the first time in her career and she’s becoming a better and more experienced player every day. Now, she already has the experience of playing a Grand Slam final and if she gets another chance, that experience will help her.

Moreover, she played already two Grand Slam finals in doubles and that might be a major advantage, especially if she plays the final against a player that will be playing in the first major final. Great experience of that is last year’s US Open when Emma Raducanu and Leylah Fernandez played in the final. It was the first final appearance for both and it was visible.

Former coach of Serena Williams, Rick Macci, summed it up in an exclusive interview with Tennis-Infinity.com when he said:

“Coco is going to win some Grand Slams there's no doubt about it. She's only 18, she’s gonna get better.”

And that's the most important thing. Coco Gauff is the most experienced 18-years-old player on the WTA Tour and she will only improve as the time goes by. This gives her a major advantage against many opponents, especially those that are younger or less experienced.
