Serena Williams is not officially retired from tennis as she pointed out a few times that she still might return to playing.
However likely that remains to be seen but according to good friend Caroline Wozniacki, it seems rather unlikely. Williams opted to use the word 'evolve' instead of 'retire' throughout this process and many thought it was because she might come back to playing.
Wozniacki doesn't see it: “I don’t think so. If she plays an exhibition I think that would be lucky but I don’t see her back playing on Tour," said the former number one.
"There are just so many things going on. I think she loves the game so much and it’s been her life for so many years. But at the same time, she is busy. I don’t think we will see her on a professional tennis court again," added Wozniacki.
The former player also reflected on how it was to spend on the opposite side of the net against Williams: “Playing at the same time as her was tough because there were a lot of tournaments that I felt that I could have probably won if she hadn’t been in my way."
It's a common sentiment many players have and probably a fact but she was also privileged to experience it: “But at the same time what an honour it has been to have been there (on the Tour) at the same time as her because I get to play against the best player that ever played this game.”
