2023 Miami Open WTA Draw with Rybakina, Sabalenka, Swiatek & more

| by Zachary Wimer

The WTA draw for the 2023 Miami Open, which will be played from March 21st to April 2nd was released.

In 2022, Iga Swiatek lifted the trophy in Miami as she completed a Sunshine Double. This year, she lost in the semifinals in Indian Wells, and she will want to get back to winning ways at the 2023 Miami Open, where she will also defend a title. In the second round, the Pole will start against Claire Liu or doubles world no. 1, Katerina Siniakova.

But the competition will be fierce and there are at least two players capable of stopping her. One is the player that did it in Indian Wells and then went on to win the trophy, Elena Rybakina. The 10th-seed will begin against Anna Kalinskaya or Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, and she can meet the first-seeded Pole already in the quarterfinals this time.

Aryna Sabalenka, who reached the final at Indian Wells, is the second-seeded player again in Miami. This time, the Belarusian will face a very difficult second-round test as she'll meet Shelby Rogers or the 2017 US Open champion, Sloane Stephens.

The list of players capable of having a good run is long. One of them is surely the third-seeded Jessica Pegula, who will meet talented Linda Fruhvirtova or a qualifier in the second round. Her doubles partner, the sixth-seeded Coco Gauff can be Pegula's quarterfinal opponent but the teenager will first have to focus on her second-round match against Yulia Putintseva or Rebecca Marino.

A very difficult test will await the semifinalist from Indian Wells, Maria Sakkari. The seventh-seeded Greek will meet one of the two Grand Slam champions that will clash in the first round. The 2019 US Open winner, Bianca Andreescu, and the 2021 US Open champion, Emma Raducanu will fight for a spot in the second round.

Another major winner, the 2020 Australian Open champion, Sofia Kenin can be a third-round opponent of one of the three players as the American will begin against a qualifier in the first round and she will meet the 28th-seeded Anhelina Kalinina in the second round if she successfully navigates the first one.

No.4 Ons Jabeur and No. 5 Caroline Garcia recently struggled with form, but they will both want to get back to their best in Miami. The Tunisian will meet Maryna Zanevska or a qualifier, while the French player will start against Fernanda Contreras Gomez or Sorana Cirstea.
