The 2023 Merida Open is a new event and the draw includes several high-ranked players competing for the title.

Polish player Magda Linette is the top seed in the tournament and will be looking to continue in the strong start to her 2023 season. The Pole reached the semifinals in Melbourne and she will want to continue that also in Mexico.

She has had some success in recent years, winning her first WTA title in the Bronx Open in 2019. She is a consistent player with a solid all-round game, and should be considered one of the favorites to win the tournament. In the first round, she will meet Camila Osorio from Colombia.

American Sloane Stephens is the second seed and will be looking to make a statement in this tournament. She has struggled with consistency in recent years, but she has the potential to beat any player on her day. If she can find her best form, she could go all the way and win the title, and her journey will begin against one of the qualifiers.

One players to keep an eye on is young American talent, Alycia Parks. She's the fifth-seeded player at the 2023 Merida Open and her first-round opponent will be Fernanda Contreras Gomez.

There are several other players who could potentially win the tournament. Nadia Podoroska is a dangerous player with a powerful forehand and good movement around the court. She has the potential to beat any player in the draw. Alison Riske-Armitraj also enjoyed success in the past and she will want to win a WTA event again.
