The 2023 Abu Dhabi Open is a relatively new WTA event, which will be played from February 6th to 12th, and we already know the draw.
Some of the best players in the world will compete at this WTA 500 event at the Zayed Sports City International Tennis Centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. So far, Aryna Sabalenka is the only champion of the tournament, which was held in 2021 but was absent from the calendar last year.
This year, Daria Kastkina is the first-seeded player and she will begin against a qualifier or Jil Teichmann in the second round. On the other side of the draw, the second-seeded Belinda Bencic will await Sorana Cirstea or Marta Kostyuk in round two.
But all eyes will be mostly on the third-seeded player in Abu Dhabi. Elena Rybakina, who is the 2023 Australian Open finalist and 2022 Wimbledon champion, will meet another Grand Slam champion or finalist in the second round, as she will meet either Karolina Pliskova or Garbine Muguruza.
The 2019 US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu also appears in the draw, but her participation is in doubt, after she was forced to pull out of her last event due to an injury. If the Canadian plays in Abu Dhabi, she will begin against a qualifier.
Some of the interesting first-round matches include a meeting between the fifth-seeded Jelena Ostapenko and Danielle Collins, as well as the match between Paula Badosa and the eighth-seeded Liudmila Samsonova. The draw includes many good matches and so be sure to check it out.
