Despite protests from fans, Alexander Zverev took to the courts and thrashed Alex Molcan comfortably at the Hamburg Open.

Alexander Zverev is back home in Hamburg, and he's proving quite comfortable at home. Why shouldn't he, he basically grew up on these courts. Sure, there is some off-court stuff that he's dealing with, but the German was quite categorical in his denial of the allegations.

Fans were furious that he was heavily featured in the promotional content at the ATP 500 event but he didn't mind as he trashed Alex Molcan comfortably in his first match at the event. The first set was a proper shellacking as the German destroyed Molcan with a bagel.

Zverev dominated play rather comfortably losing only a handful of points behind his serve. He served quite well and just dominated the rallies as Molcan struggled to keep the ball in play. The Slovakian can go on these hitting sprees that rarely end well.

The second set was quite a bit more competitive as Molcan raised his level considerably. He found a good rhythm in his play and served much better, which gave him a better position in most rallies. Still, Zverev found solutions.

On serve, the German was quite unbothered, losing more points than he did in the first set but he played a few more games on serve. It was largely similar to how the opening set went. On return, Zverev did enough to create some chances, and while he missed out on the first break point, he converted the second one to break.

From there it was a rather comfortable cruise to the finish line. The final score was 6-0 6-3 for Zverev who moves on to face compatriot Maximilian Marterer who is not a bad player on clay. Zverev will be heavily favoured though.
