Alexander Zverev is back home in Hamburg for the ATP 500 event there, and fans are furious about the player getting a promotion from the event.

Zverev was in good graces with the fans in recent months as he was struggling to get back to the level he had before his terrible ankle injury. Even so, the German still has a lot of fans that aren't that warm towards him, mostly due to his abuse allegations from a few years ago.

Severe allegations were investigated by the ATP only for the organisation to dismiss any need for disciplinary actions. Quite a few fans were enraged by that, and many of them rejoiced when another set of allegations came out.

Zverev is now facing bodily harm allegations from another former partner, though, this time around, criminal charges are involved, which makes this matter a lot more serious. Calls for a proper investigation were loud once again as the ATP remains lacklustre on the topic. The German himself only broke his silence ahead of the 2023 Hamburg Open, commenting on the matter.

Some fans were furious when they saw the Hamburg Open promote him as if nothing had happened, even if he has charges against himself in Germany, no less. Others pointed out how the sport handles certain things which don't make sense according to them.

Makes me feel sick that @hamburgopen is promoting him as if nothing happened but I’m not surprised

Allegedly miss some drug test. Tennis: IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION. Allegedly abuse your partner. Tennis: Eh, we’ll get to it.

There is certainly a discussion to have about the way the sport handled his former allegations, as well as those of other players. They stayed relatively quiet on the matter in most cases which is not good enough, according to some.

Fans would like to have an abuse policy which would see players suspended if there is an open investigation against them.
