Alexander Zverev has now broken his silence on the newest set of allegations against him that were made public recently.
This is not the first time Zverev is facing abuse allegations as the German faced them a few years ago when a former partner accused him of abuse in an interview. Olya Sharypova made the allegations in an interview though the matter was never investigated by police as she didn't press charges.
According to Sharypova it happened over a long period of time which she detailed in a tell-all interview with noted reporter Ben Rothenberg. Despite loud calls for the ATP to investigate the matter, the Tour took a very long time to do so ultimately opting for an independent investigation which found nothing suspicious.
Zerev continued his career and that was that. Fast forward to now, and the German is facing a new set of allegations by another former partner, this time one he has a child with. Brenda Patea has accused him of bodily harm.
The German remained silent after RTL broke the news last week but now has finally spoken about it as he's back in his hometown to compete at the 2023 Hamburg Open. He will play at the tennis event there, and he briefly commented on the matter, denying the accusations.
From my side, I completely reject the allegations. My lawyers will take care of the matter. I won’t say any more than that.
Once again there were rather swift and loud calls for another thorough investigation as two accusations indicate a pattern. His violent outburst at a tennis event last year didn't go unnoticed by fans who argued that the stories about him could be true.
Nobody knows, and as of now, Zverev is innocent until proven guilty. He won't talk about it anymore but this time things will be investigated by the law as well. That could be problematic for Zverev.
