The 2025
Citi Open in Washington, a combined
ATP and
WTA tournament, will run from July 21st to 27th, and the
prize money and ranking points have been unveiled.
A 500-level event, the 2024 Citi Open brought much intrigue and drama. On the women's side,
Paula Badosa won her first title in over two years by triumphing in a dramatic three-set final against Marie Bouzkova.
The Spaniard was very emotional after that success. She returned from months out with a severe back issue at the start of 2024, making her moment in the American capital particularly special.
Unfortunately, Badosa's back issues have continued since. In an interview earlier this year, the former world No. 2 admitted that she expects to retire earlier than most players because of that problem.
Sebastian Korda was the 2024 men's singles champion in Washington. He overcame Flavio Cobolli, a quarterfinalist at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, to secure the most significant title of his career.
Ben Shelton is one of the top stars
on this year's ATP entry list. With so many good players on each entry list, the fans should be treated to a lot of exceptional tennis on the hard courts in Washington.
Despite the ATP and WTA stars competing at the same tournament, the men will receive more prize money. The ranking points awarded to players by the respective Tours are also slightly different for some of the rounds.
The 2025 Citi Open men's singles champion will receive $420,525, while the women's winner must accept a lower $197,570. Both titlists are guaranteed to have 500 ranking points added to their total.
This year's ATP runner-up at the 500-level tournament is set to collect $224,275 and 330 ranking points. The second-best women's player of the week will earn $121,880 and 325 points for their efforts.
Shelton and Aryna Sabalenka were among the 2024 semifinalists. The two men who replicate what Shelton achieved will get $116,340 and 200 ranking points, while the women who get as far as Sabalenka did will leave Washington with 195 points and $71,205.
Getting to the quarterfinals of the 2025 iteration guarantees each ATP player at least $60,740 and 100 points. The defeated WTA quarterfinalists will receive $37,530 and 108 points.
For non-seeded players, two victories are needed to make the round of 16, which will be enough to earn $32,005 and 50 points. Just one win is required for non-seeded WTA players to get that far, while the Top 4 seeds get a bye to that stage. $19,085 and 60 points will be handed to those 16 women.
$17,525 and 25 points are the rewards for the men who get to the round of 32, compared to $13,585 and one ranking point for the women. There is an extra round for non-seeded ATP players. No ranking points and $9,345 will be given to the men who fall at the first hurdle.
