Yibing Wu had a very unpleasant experience during his campaign at the 2023 Citi Open in Washington, as he fainted at the ATP 500 event.

Unfortunately, there are some things in our lives that we can not choose, and one of those are also health and different medical conditions. One of the most-talented Chinese players, Yibing Wu knows something about it as he struggles with collapsing and fainting.

Only recently, at the 2023 Wimbledon, the Chinese player had a heart rate of 187 and collapsed in the locker room, but still carried on and played his match against Frances Tiafoe, ultimately losing to the American.

Now, at the 2023 Citi Open in Washington, Wu had a very similar experience. The heat in Washington can be really difficult to handle on the tennis court during the summer, and that's why also former world no. 1, Andy Murray, adjusted his preparation to prepare for it.

However, Wu couldn't really prepare that well, as he struggles with a medical condition that makes it more probable for him to collapse during these conditions. In the first round of the draw at the 2023 Citi Open, he took on Yosuke Watanuki, and the match was going well for the Chinese player.

In the fourth game of the opening set, he got a break, and after that, he confirmed it with a hold of serve, leading 4-1 against his Japanese opponent only after 19 minutes of play.

However, as Wu approached his chair during the changeover, he suddenly collapsed as medical staff quickly came to rescue the Chinese player, who then fell to the ground one more time. It appeared that he even wanted to continue, but ultimately, Wu was forced to retire from the match despite leading 4-1 in the opening set of the first-round match.
