Tennis players must adhere to the highest levels of discipline when on the court, but Alexander Bublik most certainly stepped out of line but escaped any sort of punishment during his recent match.
Bublik's choice of words during a furious on-court outburst while playing Andy Murray in Stuttgart was in Russian. Although he was born in Russia and speaks the language of his country of birth, he chose to represent Kazakhstan because of the support he received early on in his career.
He's known as an unorthodox player who can be a show pony at times because of his extravagant shot selection. But he's also not afraid of showing too much emotion on the court, either with his racket or mouth. The 25-year-old chose the latter, as he ranted in Russian after he misfired a shot late in the first.
According to a translation from reputable sources on Twitter, Bublik said, "Will he make errors, I can't stand this, I fu**ed the dog. I'm tired of this fu***ng sh*t court, I fu**ed your bi*ch mother. I'm tired of this fu**ing situation. No errors from him, I'm tired."
Tennis players can be penalized for not adhering to the rules, such as using profanity on the court. Depending on the umpire's judgment, they can receive a code violation or even be defaulted in extreme cases.
But in this case, the chair umpire did not penalize the Kazakhstani, and he walked scot-free. ATP might still judge the situation afterward and fine the World No. 42.
Bublik did not get the reaction from his meltdown and was beaten in straight sets by Murray. This means that he has not won back-to-back matches on the ATP Tour since his sensational title win in Montpellier in early February.
He will now travel to London to play at Queen's Club in preparation for Wimbledon. The draw for the ATP 500 event should be released in the coming days.
