Iga Swiatek was glad to win as many matches as she did last year but it raised her expectations really high for her.
Swiatek's winning streak at Wimbledon last year was predicted to end, but many people were startled when it really did. She was relieved since she had become weary of always talking about it feeling as if it became more important than her as a player.
For sure, I feel like people are really focused on the numbers and on the statistics. I feel like they're looking at those matches, like, not seeing that we are still people, and we have to really fight for it, you know? They're just like, I don't know, 'you have more skills and you're using them, so you're going to win'. They're just looking at numbers.
It's something very tricky to handle as a player because as competitors they have expectations themselves. Swiatek is no different but those that come from the outside after far higher and make you think that you're just a robot and not a person with flaws.
I don't know. I know that I also put a lot of expectations on myself, but I'm working on that. It just feels like sometimes, they're not treating you still as a human, but more like a robot who has to win. Maybe it will be a little bit easier if there were less people that are kind of judging.
