The biggest success of Frances Tiafoe's career came at this year's US Open when he reached semifinals and stunned Rafael Nadal.

The 24-years-old American enjoyed the best ATP season of his career and thanks to that, he will finish it as no. 19 in the ATP Rankings. However, in case of a victory in the Flushing Meadows, Tiafoe might have easily found himself as the highest-ranked American player and qualify for the 2022 ATP Finals.

Despite not doing so, he sees it as a good thing as he believes that it will motivate him for the 2023 season. Since he collected majority of his points in the latter part of the season, there is a chance of gaining a lot of spots in the rankings early on as he had a slower start this year.

“It was tough because I really thought I was going to get it done but I think it was the best thing for me not to win it honestly because seeing how everyone responded and all the things I got invited to and I didn’t win it, It built that little extra hunger, so 2023 that’s the goal, to get across that line,” said Tiafoe on the latest episode of the ATP Tennis Podcast.
