Holger Rune is hoping to have a similar success to what Boris Becker brought to Novak Djokovic when he coached him years ago.
Becker and Djokovic were a pretty good tandem, winning a couple of trophies together, and Rune hopes to see similar success. The surprise move to hire Becker came out of nowhere, especially since Rune just recently split up with Patrick Mouratoglou.
That breakup made it seem like Rune was going back to his coach full-time, but it seems like he had already settled on Becker as somebody who is familiar to him. The German will join Rune in Basel, which will be their first official ATP event together, and ahead of it, the Dane spoke about the former legendary player.
It's great to learn from players like (Boris) and from Rafa (Nadal), Roger (Federer) and Novak. It would be good to steal a bit from what they did. They got so many things right. Boris did well as a coach of Djokovic and as a player. I'm excited to hear what he has to say.— Rune on teaming up with tennis legend Becker<br>
Becker joins Rune's team at a very difficult time for the Danish number one. He's been playing poorly since Wimbledon, winning only one match since then, and it's very bad timing.
You never want to lose as much as Rune did recently, but even less so when you're battling for a spot in Turin. Despite that, Rune is vibing with Becker so far.
Boris is teaching me things that are basic but important. It's gonna be nice, you'll see. "I hope he can give me as much advice as possible and help me to do better.
We'll see what ultimately happens, but the Dnae is in need of wins because a spot in Turin is quite far away right now.
