The 2025
Prague Open from July 21st to 26th will contain financial and ranking point incentives for players on the entry list to fight for.
No Top 20 players have
committed to play at this year's event in Prague. That is not overly surprising because of the controversial
WTA limitations on the number of top women who can compete at each WTA 250 tournament.
The Prague Open also occurs during the same week as the 2025 Citi Open in Washington, a WTA 500 event that is much geographically closer to the 2025 Canadian Open in Montreal, which is scheduled for the following week.
Despite those challenges, the Prague Open entry list still contains some exciting players. Home favorite
Linda Noskova has an opportunity to win her maiden title at the event, especially since no Top 20 rivals are set to appear.
Alycia Parks is another powerful hitter who has signed up for the tournament. Rather than go through qualifying for the event in Washington, the American has decided to try and thrive in the weaker field in the Czech Republic.
Dayana Yastremska, who
left Coco Gauff devastated after beating her at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships, and 2021 French Open runner-up
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova are among the other players on the entry list.
Although the
prize money and ranking points to be won are lower in Prague than in Washington, the players will still be motivated to secure the highest share of the $275,094 prize money pot.
The 2025 Prague Open champion will receive 250 points and $36,300.
Magda Linette thrashed Magdalena Frech 6-2, 6-1 in an all-Polish final to win last year's title, but neither player plans to return to the tournament later this month.
Whoever replicates Frech's achievement of reaching the final will earn $21,484 and 163 points. Karolina Muchova and Elise Mertens are among the other women who have been losing finalists in Prague.
The prize money and ranking points remain decent for losing in the semifinal. $11,970 and 98 points will be handed to those players. Noskova and Laura Samson were last year's defeated semifinalists at the tournament.
Ella Seidel, Viktoriya Tomova, Anhelina Kalinina, and Oksana Selekhmetova fell in the 2024 quarterfinals. $6,820 and 54 ranking points are the guaranteed rewards for the players who do not go any further than that stage this year.
All players in the main draw need one victory to reach the round of 16. Achieving that will earn those 16 women at least 30 ranking points and $4,470, regardless of how far they go in Prague.
One ranking point and $3,110 are the rewards just for being in the main draw. Being given some financial compensation for appearing and not winning any matches can be a lifeline to lower-ranked players trying to play the sport.
The 2024 Prague Open was played on clay. This year's iteration is on hard courts, which suits many of the players on the entry list. Hopefully, it will be a great tournament filled with lots of great tennis.
