Rafael Nadal recently withdrew from two ATP events and now he added yet another withdrawal that puts his future plans in doubt.
The experienced Spaniard will soon drop to his lowest in the ATP Rankings since 2017 and his drop may be even more significant. Nadal is defending 600 points at the 2023 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells, and that's exactly the event that he's targeting with his return.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion suffered a hip injury at the Australian Open this year, and he's yet to recover from it, as he withdrew from the Dubai Championships and Qatar Open before.
On March 5th, Nadal was supposed to take on his fellow compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in an exhibition match at the MGM Rewards The SLAM at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. However, he announced that he won't be playing the event.
“I am very sad for not being able to come to Vegas and play in this amazing event with Carlos at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Unfortunately, the timing of my recovery doesn’t make it possible to be there ready to play."
"I am sure that we will find another date to celebrate this event and have fun. I would like to thank the fans and event organizers who have been in contact with me all the time, showed a lot of support and have been extremely understanding.”
