Mirra Andreeva vs Dayana Yastremska: 2023 Hong Kong Open - Preview & Prediction

by Evita Mueller

After a good week in Beijing, Mirra Andreeva returns to the court at the 2023 Hong Kong Open with a match against Dayana Yastremska.

Mirra Andreeva last played at the China Open and produced a really good level, beating a couple of good players. She first needed to qualify in order to take part in the event, but after getting that done, Andreeva added a couple of really solid wins over good players.

She ultimately ran into Elena Rybakina, who proved better despite Andreeva being a set and break up. She's going to be back on the courts in Hong Kong, hoping to win a couple of more matches as the season slowly comes to an end in the coming weeks.

Her opponent is a familiar one Dayana Yastremska, whom she played at the Lausanne Open earlier this year.

Head-to-head:

So their previous match was a really one-sided one as Andreeva smashed Yastremska in two sets 6-0 6-2. The attack was one-sided because Yastremska struggled greatly against players like Andreeva. The teenager is very good at putting you in uncomfortable situations on the court, which Yastremska struggles to deal with.

She loves to attack and play short rallies, but that's not good if you're not patient and she's not patient and doesnt' choose her spots well. She just blasts it, and most of the time, it goes wide.

Prediction:

I think this match doesn't go that much differently at least when it comes to the result. Being on a faster court will only embolden her to attack even more. In that situation I see her slamming the ball wide most of the time because Andreeva will make her very uncomfortable.

I'd be really shocked if Andreeva doesn't win this one, even losing one set would be kind of surprising. She's the better player in good form, so back her to get it done.

Prediction: Mirra Andreeva to win in two sets.
