Taylor Fritz won the 2022 Diriyah Tennis Cup, an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia, after winning two tie-breaks against Daniil Medvedev in the final.
The American was one of the players ranked in the Top 10 that participated at the prestigious exhibition event that served as a great preparation for players ahead of the 2023 season as well as an opportunity to earn some more money. Winner of the event received $1 million and so there was a real fight for every point despite the event being exhibition.
After winning the title in Saudi Arabia, Fritz shared a picture with trophy on his Instagram and added a caption stating: "Diriyah Tennis Cup CHAMPION. For real this last year has felt like a dream, thank you everyone for the support all year long, time to get some training in and I’ll see you in Australia for 2023."
One of his best friends on the ATP Tour, fellow American Frances Tiafoe joked about a big prize money that Fritz won as he commented: "Bruh let me get some of that bag bro."
Speaking about his win, Fritz said: "Last time we played, he won. He told me I was the better player in the first set and it’s kind of reversed this time. It was a really tough match. He was in control. He had all the chances."
"Every time he had a breakpoint, I played really well and always kind of came up with what I needed to. And then I played well in the tiebreakers and the big points so I was then able to steal it away from him," he said after the match.
