'Keep Pushing For More': Murray Hungry After First Grass-Court Win Since 2016 Wimbledon

| by Balasz Virag

Andy Murray made a winning return to grass lifting the trophy in Surbiton with a sturdy performance throughout the week dropping only one set.

The final lasted several hours but only because rain interfered with it. If that didn't happen Murray would have closed it out rather quickly as the Brit completely dominated Rodionov in the final. He beat him in two sets to lift his second challenger trophy this year. It's a major thing for Murray because it should give him a lot of confidence moving forward.

He's always maintained confidence about his grass level putting himself among the top 10 players on the ATP Tour on the surface before the event. He's certainly looking like that right now but the true test will come at Wimbledon in a few weeks. For now, the win was great for him.

It’s great to win [on home soil] – obviously we don’t get too many chances and these grass-court tournaments aren’t easy ones to win. But it’s brilliant to win another one and my kids are always asking me when I go away if I am going to come home with a trophy – and it’s been rare over the last few years!

The rain gave Murray a chance to catch the conclusion of the Djokovic match which was good for him as he backed him to win number 23. The downside was that his kids had to go back home not being able to watch him lift the trophy in person. He promised to bring it back home.

They actually came two minutes before the rain started and my wife had to take them back home so they missed the end of the match but I think they watched it on TV so Sophia, Edie, Teddy and Lola, I hope you’re watching and I’ll bring you all a trophy tonight.

The win itself was just amazing for Murray because he was playing against a player who has been really good this year. It's a perfect start to the grass season and he'll hope to keep that going in the coming weeks. Nottingham is next up and then Queen's Club and Wimbledon after that.

It’s been the perfect start to the grass season. I’ve chosen to come and play here and in Nottingham to hopefully get lots of matches under my belt so this week has been the perfect start. I would also like to thank my team. Let’s keep pushing for more.
