Grigor Dimitrov lowkey put together a really impressive season so far, however, it won't extend in Canada as he withdrew from the Canadian Open in Toronto.

It was a rather sudden withdrawal from Dimitrov, who was in action just last week in Washington. The Bulgarian played a really solid week of tennis in the US capital, making his way to the semi-final, where he was beaten by Dan Evans.

Evans won the event in the end so it's not a terrible loss but it seems like he paid the price for his good play - an injury. According to reports, Dimitrov pulled out of the Canadian Open due to a back injury that has plagued him in the past.

There are only a few explanations here. Either it bothered him already in Washington, and it got worse so he's protecting his US Open or it's a completely new injury which would be even worse. Dimitrov himself hasn't spoken on it yet so it's kind of hard to tell, but it's a shame that he won't be able to play after putting forward some good showings.

It's been a pretty strong year overall for Dimitrov who had 28 wins and only 14 defeats so far. According to the draw, he was set to face Borna Coric in the first round, which is a huge clash between two very good players. We won't be getting that as the Bulgarian was replaced by lucky loser Aleksandar Vukic who was beaten by Diego Schwartzman in the qualifying.

As for Dimitrov, we need to wait and see whether he remains in the Cincinnati draw. There is optimism that he might, but in case it's highly unlikely that he misses the US Open. Now that would be very unfortunate but hopefully, it won't come to that.
