Novak Djokovic will return to Melbourne in 2023 with a burning desire to win says Kim Clijsters as she backs him to win the event.
In Melbourne last year, Novak Djokovic went through one of the worst periods of his career when he was treated harshly, in the opinion of many. After his VISA was revoked, he was ultimately deported, and as a result, he witnessed Nadal win the trophy for the historic 21st time.
"I heard that he's (Novak Djokovic) able to play this year, in 2023 he's going to be able to go, and I'm sure he's going to be more motivated than ever to try and do well there again," said Kim Clijsters in talk with Craig Shapiro on his podcast.
As he attempts to claim the unprecedented 10th victory, Djokovic will undoubtedly have plenty of incentive to return to the court with vengeance. Nadal is the only player to have won 10 grand slams in the same city so nobody has ever done that in Melbourne. Dealing with all the uncomfortable feelings from the event will be essential to coming out on top.
"Amazing. The way that he's able to leave a lot of the negative, the way that he's able to put that behind him and kind of use it all in a force on the court to play better and be even more focused, I absolutely admire it," added Clijsters fully expecting Djokovic to handle it well.
"I wasn't in Australia when that whole thing was going on, but I can imagine it's really tough to go through, not just for him but for the team and everyone involved. It's a crazy situation.
