Roger Federer wasn't always confident in his success but observing the dominant runs of Tiger Woods and Michael Schumacher showed him it's possible.

As a result of his early involvement in sports, Federer was always extremely competitive. He didn't play tennis at first, but he eventually started to enjoy it with time. He had no idea how wise that choice had been, as he would go on to become a renowned player who will never be forgotten.

“When I was growing up, I had Michael Schumacher that I would look up to, who was at the top for so long. Tiger Woods, same thing," began Federer talking about his sports heroes that inspired him to search for perfection.

Many would say that Federer is the player that came closest to tennis perfection due to his elegancy but he had doubts whether it was possible: “And I always thought it was impossible to do that, to stay at the top for so long and have that drive.

His heroes showed him it is as he continued his story: “Now people ask me: 'how did you do it?' And I’m like, 'well, it’s normal!' You just go out there, you do it again, and you try to win, and again. And it’s fun and so you keep doing it."

Another player whom he observed is Pete Sampras and he taught him a valuable lesson: “I also needed the likes of Pete Sampras to show me how it is at the top. And it’s tough, you know?.

But I feel like I had a lot of fun on the tour. It was not just about tennis. It was also going to nice dinners with friends and I’m happy I didn’t take tennis that serious or that professional."
