Fabio Fognini didn't have a great Australian Summer revealing a foot issue but the foot issue was actually a fracture he was not aware off.

Fognini didn't have a really good draw in Melbourne either as he got Thanasi Kokkinakis early in the event and lost to him in straight sets. A foot bothered him in that match and other matches and after coming back to Italy, Fognini did some scans revealing an injury.

Unfortunately in Melbourne, I was not able to compete as I wished. My left foot gave me some issues. As soon as I got back to Italy I did other medical investigations and the doctors discovered an intra-articular fracture of the head of the first proximal phalanx of my left foot. Now my goal is to try to get back in shape as soon as I can.

The Italian was supposed to return during the clay stretch in South America but it remains to be seen what his timetable of return will be.
