Dominic Thiem reportedly received an unexpected visit from the police in his native Austria after a neighbor complained about noises coming from his apartment.
The story initially originated on social media, but due to unusual and bizarre circumstances, it was not clear whether it came from a verified source. However, it was eventually published in several Austrian tabloids, and Thiem confirmed its validity on the radio as well.
What transpired was that Thiem's neighbors in adjacent apartments or buildings complained about excessive noise coming from his house. The former US Open champion is currently living in Traiskirchen, a village in Austria, where he has been practicing during his tennis break.
The neighbors mistook Thiem's grunting for a very different cause, thinking that there was production of adult content being filmed. The 28-year-old is known to tennis fans as being an intense player who grunts loudly when he executes his shots.
Those close to him felt it was rather awkward to hear such loud noises for so long. Little did they know, it was Thiem who was putting in the hard yards on a practice court in his apartment.
"It's not the first time this has happened to me. It's always funny and I even understand it, because sometimes when I train I scream a lot and make weird noises."
Apparently, it's not the first time it has happened to him, but Thiem just laughed off the situation in an interview with O3 Radio. He explained that he grunts even louder during training.
The former World No. 3 is currently out of action and won't play at this year's grass-court swing. He has made a full recovery from a wrist injury that curtailed his 2021 season. Thiem remains without a single win in 2022 and hasn't revealed his plans after Wimbledon, which he will miss.
