In the first round of the 2022 Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic defeated Soonwoo Kwon who played a very solid match.

The Centre Court in the All England Club celebrates 100 years and Novak Djokovic and Soonwoo Kwon were the first two players to play a match on the Centre Court this year. Before the tournament, the Serbian stated that he usually adapts to grass quickly, despite not playing any grass tournament before.

“I didn't have any lead-up tournaments to Wimbledon, but I've had success in Wimbledon in the past without having any official matches and tournaments. I just had one exhibition match a few days ago in Hurlingham. Over the years, as I said, I had success with adapting quickly to the surface, so there is no reason not to believe that I can do it again.”

However, this year, it seemed that it took world number 3 a little bit longer to adapt to the grass on the Centre Court. Soonwoo Kwon was the first player to break in the first set as the South Korean enjoyed a 3-1 lead.

But 20-time Grand Slam champion showed his greatness and won the following five games to win the first set 6-3. Kwon didn't stop his charge and broke Djokovic's serve in the second set too to get a 4-1 lead again.

In the very next game, he face three breakpoints, but didn't make a mistake under pressure and eventually, he managed to win a set against a 6-time Wimbledon champion on the Centre Court.

Kwon had the first breakpoint also in the third set. Yet, this time he couldn't use his chance and was broken later and lost the set. World number 81 had more breakpoint opportunities than his opponent also in the fourth set, but Djokovic showed his experience and won the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
