Alex de Minaur is well-known for his lightning-fast speed and unwavering tenacity on the court but also his nickname 'Demon'.

But how did he come to be known as the 'Demon'? In a recent interview on the AO Show, De Minaur, who recently won the biggest title of his career, finally revealed the story behind his famous nickname.

It turns out that de Minaur's nickname was actually coined many years ago by one of his old coaches, Ben Pine. The Australian claimed that the nickname was a pun on his surname, which is notoriously challenging to say. It was also a reference to his agility and quickness on the court.

"Well, actually responsible for it is one of my old coaches called Ben Pine a long time ago. It kind of was to do with kind of my speed a little bit. It was a play on words with my surname. I always had a kind of longer surname, which was hard to pronounce and get right. So it kind of worked and I went with it ever since."

The 'Demon', however, is more than simply a clever moniker. It represents De Minaur's ferocious competitiveness and unwavering quest for excellence. De Minaur exemplifies the character of a real champion, whether he's persevering through a taxing match or pushing himself to raise his game.

The next time you see De Minaur rip around the court with lightning-quick speed and unwavering focus, think back on the 'Demon's' origin tale and the perseverance and hard work that made it all possible.
